BAKING
Does anyone else have a hobby that they have absolutely no formal training or experience in, yet they love it and are kind of, almost good at it?
Well…..mine is baking.
I think this came from my mother. She loves to bake as a form of relaxation. It’s something to do when her mind needs to get away from work or other life’s stresses. Does she get stressed when she has a million things to bake for the holidays? Yes. But it is a different, fun kind of stress.
I think I somehow picked this up from her somewhere along the line. I truly don’t remember how or when, but suddenly I have noticed that I have this same sort of getaway experience with baking. When I am baking, I do not think of anything else. It is like my mind is so focused on the dish that I am making, that nothing else really matters.
I think I like baking for a couple of reasons. One of the reasons is because it is so far removed from what I do on a daily basis. I spend most of my days at my Monday through Friday 9 to 5 and then I come home and get right to work on my small business graphic design dream. While my 9 to 5 and my 5 to 9 are not related, they both involve sitting down at my computer. I have learned over the past couple of years that this can take a huge toll on your body! Running around the kitchen feels so different.
Another reason I think I love to bake is because you are mostly following a set of directions. I have always liked to have a set of directions to follow, but to give it a little flare. This is where throwing in a certain spice to a boxed mix or cooking it for a little less time than the recipe says to comes in.
One of my favorite parts of baking, is gifting the goods to friends and family. Seeing the response, surprise and joy on people’s faces is just amazing because what is better than a fresh baked good? I recently gifted three loaves of chocolate chunk pumpkin bread and let me tell you….the response was absolute perfection.
I hope you all have your own random passion and embrace it full force. I have no plans of taking my baking habits anywhere and I am completely okay with that. I am just going to enjoy it and keep making different things for my people.
