Just try

Don’t wait.

Why do we become so tentative to try something new? Why do we feel scared, embarrassed, anxious beyond belief? Why do we act like we are “too old” to start something new?

There are so many reasons. I am not blind to that. But recently, I’ve decided it’s time to just try.

I have always had quite the imagination. It feels like every minute of every day, I have a new design I want to sketch, new hobby I want to pick up, new outfit I want to try. I have finally started to embrace these feelings and just go for it.

My first example of this is golf. I was so nervous to start because I thought I wasn’t going to be good. Guess what…I’M NOT. But how will I become good? Through practice and time and effort. Growing up an athlete, I only became good at my sport by days, weeks, YEARS of consistent practice and fine tuning. I am now on my way to that with golf just because I decided to pick up the clubs and TRY.

My biggest example of these thoughts and feelings that I need to “just try” is my current graphic design/small business journey that you are all experiencing if you are here reading this.

I have always had a business brain. For an unexplainable reason, business just clicks. But for so many years, I have held back from learning all things Adobe, creating the items, finishing the projects, writing the blog posts, building the website because I was scared to fail. I was scared that I would publicize my work and my ideas and nothing would come from it. That I would put all of the effort in and it would go nowhere.

Then one day I thought to myself “why on earth are you holding back? What are you embarrassed of? That you have a passion and a dream that you want to chase? This could be the best thing you’ve ever done. This could actually change your life.” And then….I just started.

Since then I have gotten incredible feedback, made sales on Etsy from folks around the country and learned SO much. I have become a better designer, my passion and my drive have only multiplied and most importantly, I have truly loved and looked forward to sharing each and every design.

I am nowhere where I would like to be with this venture, but I am a heck of a lot closer than I was a few years ago when I was too scared and embarrassed and tentative to start.

So this is my message to you to just try. You are not too old to start something new. You are not too inexperienced to learn something new. The only person you are hurting by not chasing a passion or a dream is you. It’s time to just try. Don’t wait.
